2017 Kia Optima vs 2017 Hyundai Sonata

Serving Stafford Township, Egg Harbor Township, and Barnegat Township, NJ

The 2017 Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata have nearly identical powertrain options that include two turbocharged engines and a naturally aspirated engine. A 12-way power driver's seat and quilted Nappa leather make the Optima more luxurious than the Sonata. This Kia model also boasts a 10-speaker sound system by Harman Kardon. Both models offer the Automatic Emergency Braking and other accident-avoidance technology. However, the Surround View Monitor gives the Optima an edge in active safety.

All of the 2017 Kia Optima trims may be furnished with a 12-way power driver's seat that has a four-way lumbar cushion. An integrated memory system (IMS) may be used to precisely adjust the positions of this ergonomic seat. In the Hyundai Sonata, only some of the models offer an eight-way power driver's seat that had an adjustable lumbar support. Quilted Nappa leather upholstery covers all of the seats in the Optima SX Limited. Although they are comfortable, the Sonata Limited 2.0T's leather seats aren't as luxurious, soft or durable. Heating and ventilation is available in all of the seats in both sedans. Additionally, these cars offer heated seat cushions in the rear row. Designed for maximum comfort on cold days, the Optima's leather-wrapped steering wheel is available with heating elements. The automatic climate control systems in these cars have dual zones. Additionally, a vent directs cool or warm air at the Optima's rear passengers.

Digital Technology

An 8.0-inch touchscreen is available in the 2017 Kia Optima LX 1.6T and above trims. This high-resolution display offers access to the UVO eServices suite, which includes GPS navigation. Only two of the Hyundai Sonata trims offer an 8.0-inch touchscreen that has navigation software. Offering seamless access to Google Maps and other apps, Android Auto is installed in the Optima and Sonata. Both sedans also support Apple CarPlay, which is optimized for the iPhone. Additionally, wireless Bluetooth technology may be turned on for hands-free handling of compatible mobile devices. Available in three of the Optima trims, the Harman Kardon sound system produces wonderful acoustics. Featuring the Clari-Fi and QuantumLogic technology, this 10-speaker audio system generates up to 630 watts of acoustic power. Rated at only 400 watts, the nine-speaker Infinity sound system is available in some of the Sonata editions. Both sedans entertain occupants with music on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Driving Assistance

Designed to lessen the severity or prevent a front crash, the Automatic Emergency Braking is available in three of the Kia Optima trims. This advanced braking technology is only available in two of the Sonata editions. Programmed to monitor the distance to another car that's ahead, the Optima's Advanced Smart Cruise Control is identical to the Sonata's Smart Cruise Control. Both models also offer the Blind Spot Detection System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Additionally, the camera-linked Lane Departure Warning System can be installed in these cars. Set up only in the Optima SX Limited, the Surround View Monitor shows overhead, rear and side perspectives in real time. Using a sonar system to scan the surroundings, the Rear Parking Assist System is another advanced driving aide that's available in the Optima.
